Benefits of Walking! There's a reason why walking is one of the most popular forms of activity in Australia. Walking helps to reduce stress, be more alert, have a healthier body and build strong relationships. Walking is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. It can be done just about anywhere and is free. Walking also has a very low risk of injury as it is low impact (not jarring on the joints) and doesn't require any special equipment or training. Join our local walking group and discover the benefits of walking https://walking.heartfoundation.org.au/walking/group/mt-druitt-medical-centre-walking-group

CHILDRENS PANADOL RECALL Consumers and health professionals are advised that GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Australia, in consultation with the TGA, is in the process of recalling three batches of Children's Panadol 5-12 years suspension, supplied in 200 mL bottles. It has been identified that an ingredient used in the manufacture of these medicines may have been contaminated with small particles that could contain trace minerals and inert fibres. The quantity of these particles would be small and they may not be visible in the product. If this occurs, there is a very low risk of allergic reaction and there is also potential for the medicine to be less effective over time. The affected batch numbers are: 136418 (strawberry flavour) 136444 (strawberry flavour) 136443 (orange flavour) The expiry date for each of the recalled products is February 2018. The batch number and expiry date are located at the bottom of the bottle label and embossed on the base of the outer box. No other batches, bottle sizes or products are affected by this recall.

Seasonal Influenza Vaccination 2015 - The national Seasonal Influenza Immunisation Program for 2015 will commence on 20 April 2015. This is later than the usual start date, due to a change in two strains from the 2014 vaccine. This double-strain change, which is an unusual occurrence, has caused manufacturing delays. The delay will not affect vaccine supply volumes, and no vaccine shortages are anticipated.

Its Skin Cancer Action Week! Time to consider booking in for an annual skin check. Dr Saxon Smith, Dermatologist and president of AMA NSW writes : "This week also serves as a good reminder to get to your family doctor for a skin check, especially if you have fair skin or a family history of skin cancer, Most of the time, skin cancer is preventable and you can protect yourself by wearing protective clothes, sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat as well as seeking shade during peak UV times. The Cancer Council recommends that whenever UV levels are three or above you should slip, slop, slap, seek and slide. Theres more to skin cancer than melanoma and while melanoma is the most deadly form, people should be on the lookout for any changes in their skin.

Annual Health Assessment - As part of our commitment to keeping our patients as well as possible, we recommend having a full checkup every year for all those over the age of 75. This is often a good way of identifying health issues and conditions that are potentially preventable or able to be remendied in order to improve health and quality of life. The health assessment includes assessing day to day function and discussing appropriate interventions with you where necessary. We can also take the opportunity to review your medications to make sure you are only on what you need to be on. Please contact us if you have any questions on this.
